MOSES EZEKIEL, LOST ARTIST
Sculptor Moses Jacob Ezekiel was a complex historical figure: The first American-born Jewish artist to achieve international acclaim was also an ardent supporter of the Confederacy during the Civil War. Best known for sculpting the Confederate Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery and the original statue of Thomas Jefferson that was replicated at the University of Virginia, Ezekiel also created a collection of statues depicting renowned painters and sculptors that are now located at the Norfolk Botanical Garden.

Presented in recognition of Jewish American Heritage Month, Steven Pressman’s provocative documentary film tells the unknown story of artist Moses Ezekiel while also focusing on the current fate of Civil War monuments devoted to the dangerous “Lost Cause” myth of the Confederacy.
