ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Dr. Benaryeh is an Austin veterinarian whose claim to fame goes way beyond the beautiful Bark Mitzvahs he has thrown, the monkeys he has treated, the crazy clients he has encountered, or the oddball situations life has placed him in. He grew up in New York with lots of animals. He is board certified and, despite that and a book, still works like the rest of us.
ABOUT THE BOOK:
The Vet Will See You Now is best described as Kitchen Confidential meets All Creatures Great and Small. Using stories as a backdrop, the book delivers current veterinary information that every pet owner needs. It is a behind-the-scenes view of a veterinary hospital, showing readers what happens on the other side of the “employees only” door. The stories are irreverent, bitingly satirical on occasion, often humorous, and sometimes tragic. Every story has a purpose, as does every chapter.
The target audience is anyone who loves their pets. It is a compilation of what Barak has learned after thirty-five years in this profession. It delivers the information that people have been wanting all those years in a pleasure-to-read format. The book is meant as a reference of sorts, but also as a good read.
The book chronicles Barak’s life with pets, from a childhood in Israel, to a stint in Zurich, Switzerland, for three years, to the great city of Yonkers, New York. It is, in a very small way, the story of Barak’s life with animals and what he has learned through each of the health disorders he’s treated in his own pets.
PRAISE:
“If your veterinarian were also a brilliant essayist with impeccable comic timing and genuinely bottomless compassion for both animals and their anxious humans, you'd want him to write a book. Luckily, Dr. Barak Benaryeh did exactly that. He made me laugh out loud and tear up while reading The Vet Will See You Now-his stories are fascinating and deeply insightful, his writing sharp and utterly alive. And lastly, I wouldn't take my two mini schnauzers to any other vet.”
―Amanda Eyre Ward, New York Times bestselling author of The Jetsetters
“In The Vet Will See You Now, Dr. Barak shares both the humor and humanity of veterinary medicine. I particularly loved the chapter ending tips, observations and snarky things which were informative and funny. This book is a must read for pet parents with a sense of humor.” ―Amy Attas, V.M.D., author of Pets and the City
